An honest shop assistant has become friends with a tourist after returning 3,200USD she left at a petrol station.

Pornpailin Seesod, 33, was working at a kiosk in the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, when the Brazilian holidaymaker stopped there for a comfort break on January 5.

Paula De Freitas Ballarin, 42, was in such a hurry that she left her money pouch with a mixture of local currency and US dollars on a shelf. The total value was around 100,000 Thai baht (3,130USD).

She only noticed after returning to her hotel, where staff checked CCTV but were still unable to locate the missing money.

Meanwhile, Pornpailin had found the cash and immediately contacted police who checked security cameras showing the registration of the min-van Paul had been travelling in.

The two women both burst into tears during an emotional reunion on January 10, where Paula received her money back and gave the shop assisted a reward.

The pair said they would remain friends. Paula told her: ''God bless you. Thank you always. Thank you so much.''

Speaking during a press conference, Paula said: ''This is my seventh time visiting Thailand and it's the first time I have lost something like this.

''I'm overwhelmed by the honesty and kindness of Pornpailin. I cannot thank her enough. We will remain friends.''

Pornpailin said she had been brought up by her parents never to take other people's belongings.

She said: ''The first thing I did was contact the police. My mother and father have always told me that any property which is not ours should be returned to its owner.''
