Elephant hauled out of 35-foot well after four hour struggle in India
An elephant was rescued from a 35-foot well yesterday (21 January) after a four hour struggle by villagers and forest officials in southern India.
The incident happened in Puliyankudi, Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu state, when an elephant in Kilinochchi village fell into the well the night before.
One of the villagers Mr. Kuruswamy informed the forest officials who rushed to the site with a JCB to dig it out.
Forest Officer Ayub Khan and Vasudevanallur Disaster Rescue Force, with assistance from local farmers, rescued the animal after about 4 hours of struggle.
A large number of people who were standing around the rope tied around the elephant and dumped, people standing around their shouted and continued to drive the wild elephant into the wild.
