A stray cow was seen showing a clever and eco-friendly message by conserving water while drinking from a street tap in south India on Wednesday (January 23).

The cow goes to a public tap at Usmanganj market in Bidar, Kerala state every afternoon.

With a gentle flick with its mouth it turns the lever handle to the left to turn on the tap and get a drink.

After leisurely quenching its thirst, it again flicks the lever handle in the reverse direction to stop the water and then walks away.

A local trader Aslam Sait, 42, said: “People gather at the tap every afternoon to watch the cow turn on and turn off the tap.”

“The other cows haven’t figured out the trick and struggle to find water,” he added.

Bidar is a drought-prone region and the cow’s conscientious act has made it very popular in the city.
