Devotees at Murugan temple in Chengam of Thiruvannamali district dip their hands into a vessel full of boiling oil and take out fried vada from it. Those who dip their hands in boiling oil have not faced any problem like burning sensation or injuries on their hands. The vada Deva has been in practice at this temple for centuries. The vada is then offered to Lord Murugan every year and it is then sold for the ones who don't have children. This happens on Thaipoosam (the day when lord Murugan receive Divine powers from his mother to defeat enemies). Thousands gather to witness the seva. Devotees who have vows worship Lord Murugan and after various pujas the priest of the temple nods for Vada seva. One of the devotee there said "I asked for some blessings from lord Murugan and he granted that. Therefore I vowed for the seva and I did it now. I don't have any burning sensation or injuries in my hand. I feel good after performing the pooja". Speaking to the priest of the temple "For centuries we have been practising Vada seva and we are not mixing anything with the oil that boils. It is a magic. It's is Lord Murugan s miracle. People from various places and communities participate in this seva" he said.
The incident happened on 21 January in Chengam of Thiruvannamali District Tamil Nadu India.
