After working all day as photographers at the Tour de France, we left the press room in order to check into our hotel room on the outskirts of Tarbes, near Pau, gateway city to the Pyrénées.

As we worked on our day's race photos in the hotel room, we noticed water beginning to pool around near the desk. When my colleague put his foot down we realized it was already quite deep and filling the entire room. We began to scramble to get all of our camera and computer bags off the floor and onto the beds along with half open suitcases, shoes, basically all of our possessions needed while traveling for work during the 25-day event.
When we alerted the front desk they merely brought a small handful of towels and laughed, quite immune to the severity of the situation. Apparently a room next door had flooded and was spilling through into our room from the bathroom.
With no other rooms available and no compensation offered we took to twitter to connect with our colleagues in other hotels to find a new place for the night! Most importantly we still had hours of work to complete and prepare for another long workday, and all the while try to get a meal and some sleep in, too.
