A man enters a Greek bank holding two canisters of gasoline and a lighter Friday, threatening to self immolate and simultaneously set the bank alight.

According to the filmer, the man coated the floor, himself and the bank office with flammable liquid and kept the lighter in his hands, threatening to use it if his demands were not met.

The bank was immediately evacuated, while police, the fire brigade, and the special anti–terrorism unit (EKAM) were deployed. "Τhey drove me out of the bank immediately, saying there was a problem," one woman stated on camera. "Later we heard that a man threatened to self-immolate inside."

Eventually EKAM immobilised the man. The incident took place in the center of Thessaloniki.

Special negotiators entered the bank and tried for an hour to persuade him to surrender and get out, while information wanted him to claim compensation from the bank. Firefighters with 2 vehicles, on hand with hoses and fire extinguishers in the hands if the negotiations were wreaking havoc and the man firing. Eventually it was delivered to the men of the EKAM who entered the bank to immobilize him. He went out with his hands the sign of victory and several other gestures.
