A two-year-old boy was rescued on Sunday after falling into a 70-foot-deep borehole in northern India.

According to officials, the boy, Tej Pratap Singh, was playing near the hole in Kerhar village in Madhya Pradesh at about 8 am local time when he fell in.

According to officials, a rescue team reached the spot in 45 minutes, dug a parallel hole and were able to reach the boy and get him out safely.

He was said to have emerged without "a scratch on his body" but was being kept under medical observation for a few hours as a precaution before being returned to his family.

Officials said the borehole was dug without proper permissions and the case was being investigated.
