Moment pedestrian falls in manhole in Indian town
A dramatic footage has emerged of a man falling in a manhole in northeastern India. The incident happened on January 23 when the man was on his way home after work in Guwahati town in the northeastern state of Assam.
The footage shows the man walking along the footpath and stepping on a wooden plank that covered the manhole. According to the locals, the lid of the manhole was not placed properly that's why it couldn't bear the weight of the man and gave way.
As part of the smart India project, the cities and towns across India are undergoing a construction spree. This stormwater drains running along an arterial road was also reconstructed recently. The authorities are yet to put a concrete or mental lids on the manholes. Fortunately, the manhole was not very deep and the bystanders managed to pull him out in the nick of time.
The unidentified man, who suffered several gashes in the fall, was taken to a nearby hospital. According to the doctors, the man was released after administering first-aid.
In the past, there have been several incidents world over where pedestrians have fallen into the manhole and some of them even died in them.
