A video has emerged in which an elephant was spotted walking in the middle of the roadway that leads to Eravikulam National Park, a tourist hill station in Munnar in the southern region of India.

As soon as passers-by saw the elephant approaching them they started running uphill to find safe shelter.

The elephant named Padayappa who had come to the nearby stream to drink water lost its way back to the forest and entered the busy road. It swiftly took a U-turn towards the parking area of the National Park.

The tourists who had come to visit the national park were amused at the sight of the big tusker and started capturing the view from the balcony of a nearby hotel.

Few persons shouted out to the people on the road to take cover immediately. They said, “We never know when it might go mad and charge on us”.

The unpredictable animal was later on chased down by the forest officials into the forest to join the rest of the herd.
