This hapless python had to be rescued after getting itself stuck in a wire fence.

A gardener noticed the 9ft long snake curled up on the ground outside a home in the Sri Racha district of Chonburi, Thailand, on Tuesday (29/01) morning.

The startled python slithered away but its dash for freedom was foiled after it tried to scale a mesh fence.

The reptile tried to weave through the mesh but after getting its head through, its large body became trapped.

Nam Fon, 34, said she was cutting the grass when the python was disturbed and fled.

She said: ''The snake was curled up under a tree. When it saw me it slid away and up the wire fence. I watched it and it became stuck.''

The worker called the local rescue group who spent 15 minutes carefully pulling the python out of the fence. It emerged unharmed and was released back into the wild.

Nam Fon added: ''The building will be demolished soon and it was my job to clean the garden. I'm glad the snake has been taken away because it could have bitten a worker.''
