Extreme Cold in the Midwest Causes Rare Weather Phenomenon

Buy video

There has been a bitter cold in Indiana with even colder temperatures throughout the rest of the Midwest of the United States. The extreme cold weather has caused this tree to grow shoes made of ice that allows it to walk on water. During weather like this ice floes form along the Tippecanoe River. This tree has low hanging branches that just touch the top of the water. As the ice floes pass along the banks of the river frost slowly builds up on the low tree branches. Due to the direction of the water the build up eventually resemble shoes.

As the floes go past and continue to touch the branches the ice shoes makes the tree seem to walk along the river. It was an oddly peaceful natural wonder to observe. The day was cold and very quiet except for the sounds of the ice shoes dancing on the freezing river.
