Rescuers pull out passengers after speeding train derails in India’s Bihar

Local villagers and officials rushed to rescue passengers after a train derailed on the early hours of February 3.

Nine coaches of the Delhi-bound Seemanchal Express derailed in Vaishali district of Bihar killing at least six people and injuring several.

The train was running in full speed when the accident occurred at 3:35 am near Shahdei Buzurg railway station in Hajipur, officials said.

A team of doctors has rushed to the accident site and an accident relief train has also arrived for carrying out relief and rescue operations.

Many more bodies are feared to be trapped inside the train coaches. Rescue operation is going on at the accident spot. Injured people have been admitted in local hospital.

A local resident Saroj (in video) said: “We came running out of our homes after hearing that there was a train accident. We are trying to help passengers.”

“Rescue and relief operations are on for derailment of 9 coaches of Jogbani-Anand Vihar Terminal Seemanchal express at Sahadai Buzurg, Bihar”, said the office of the railway minister Piyush Goyal in a statement.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has expressed grief over the accident and condolences to the family members of those died in the accident.
