Mutant calf born with seven legs and two tails sends villagers and vets into tizzy in India
In a bizarre incident which occurred in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, a cow delivered a calf with seven legs and two tails on 3rd February 2019.
The owner of the cow, Jagan, is the local farmer in Vettaikaraniruppu, a coastal village in Nagapattinam district in the state. The village was severely battered during the Gaja cyclone that made landfall on 10th November 2018.
Jagan reveled he observed a unusual struggle among the quadruped during its labour. He rushed in to help the cow deliver the calf and witnessed the birth of the strange animal.
The caring farmer attended to the newborn calf and tried to help it to get up. But its legs were very feeble and it couldn’t even stand up straight. Seeing its constraints in movement, the owner has decided to arrange a surgical treatment for the newborn, with the help of the local district veterinary doctors.
Meanwhile, the rather odd creature has sparked interest among people. Visitors from the farmer’s nearby villages have flocked in numbers to Jagan's house to get a glimpse of the calf. Usually, in India, such abnormal birth is considered as a sign of prosperity. Some people also worship these creatures for good luck
