Chaos descended upon a village in central India’s Madhya Pradesh on Monday afternoon after rescuers realised that the quadruped, they aimed at rescuing, was actually a wild hyena.

The locals were first informed of the animal’s presence when a strange noise was belted by it. According to media, the noise came from a pit. When a group of people reached the location, they spotted an animal stuck in it, unable to move.

A group of good Samaritans then took it upon themselves to help out the poor creature and so the rescue began. It was during the course of the mission when things became chaotic as the onlookers and the rescue team realised that the animal was a flesh eating hyena.

Armed with sticks and nets, the team was heard telling each other to keep themselves away from the creature as several member in the group tried to keep the beast netted, rendering it immobile.

As per the video, the animal was later dragged in the rough terrains of the village.

In a separate but related incident, a hyena was spotted in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district in January 2017. According to reports, the animal had left a similar impact as people ran for their lives.
