Uplifting footage from the annual 'monkey picnic' which takes place in a Thai town - with hilarious and unpredictable consequences.

The wild monkeys roam freely through the homes, shops, roads and ancient Buddhist temples in Lopburi, central Thailand, some two hours north of capital Bangkok.

Locals believe the primates are lucky animals that bring good fortune to the area. So every year they honour them with a 'birthday party'.

Fresh fruit, candy, ice cream and bags of fruit juice and syrup are laid out throughout the day for the monkeys to feast upon. As can be seen from the video, the monkeys get excited for their big day.

Tourists flock to the area throughout the year to witness the monkeys, but the annual buffet is where the wildest scenes play out.

Cheeky primates often climb on people's heads, grab their clothes and even steal their glasses and hats.
