Love-struck cobras continue to court even after capture

A pair of cobras were so enamoured with each other they failed to notice that they had triggered panic and had been captured.

They continued to court each other ignoring the fact that a rescuer had held them by their tail and a large crowd had gathered around.

A farmer in Bhatta Sahi village in Bhadrak district spotted the pair in their backyard and called snake rescuer Mirza Mohd Arif.

Mirza saw that the cobras were in a mood to mate and requested the farmer not to disturb them. But the terrified farmer insisted that Mirza capture the cobras and take them away.

Left with no choice and fearing for their safety Mirza caught the snakes separately and moved to put them in a plastic bottle.

It was then Mirza and cameraman S K Niyaz noticed that the cobras were continuing with their courtship unmindful of the fact that they had been captured and were in the middle of a crowd.

The male took his head near the female licking his tongue and gently rubbing her nape trying to stimulate her. The female accepted his advances.

But with the crowd of selfie-seekers building up, Mirza had to act fast. He put both the snakes in plastic bottles and released them together in a nearby forest.
