A rhino bull took the last shady spot from a group of buffalo during the recent heatwave in Kruger National Park.

The clip, filmed on January 31, shows the rhino walk up to the herd and manage to scare them away with his sheer size and intimidating looks, claiming the shade for himself.

The filmer told Newsflare; “To our amazement the big rhino bull casually walked straight towards the only shady spot in the area that was occupied by two buffalo.

"The rhino could clearly not be bothered by the fact that there were two buffalo in the shade. He wanted shade in the extreme heat and he was going to take it no matter what.”

During the month of January the Kruger National Park experienced extremely hot weather with a heatwave lasting for over a week. Temperatures soared above forty degrees Celsius. Certain areas have received below average rainfall and vegetation were sparse. Braving the heat during a safari we came across a small herd of buffalo standing near a watering hole. Members of the herd were scattered, all looking for a bit of shade. Most of the trees were still without leaves and there was hardly any shade to be found. Majority of the buffalo had to stand out in the harsh sun besides two individuals standing together underneath a tree with a small patch of shade. Suddenly out of nowhere a lone white rhino bull appeared. While watching the rhino we realized he had only one thing on his mind and that was getting a shady spot. To our amazement the big rhino bull casually walked straight towards the only shady spot in the area that was occupied by two buffalo. The rhino could clearly not be bothered by the fact that there was two buffalo in the shade. He wanted shade in the extreme heat and he was going to take it no matter what. The two buffalo then realised what was happening and without any fight or objection moved away from the shade. The rhino effortlessly stole the shade from the buffalo with his sheer size and intimidating looks. The rhino continued to rest in his newly acquired shady spot while the two buffalo had to stand out in the sun with the rest of the herd.
