Activists from the radical feminist group Femen staged a protest against violence on women this morning in Madrid (February 8).

Footage shows four topless activists at the entrance of the Spanish Ministry of Equality in the country’s capital shouting, ‘’Machismo es terrorismo (Machismo is terrorism)" with messages written across their chests reading: ‘’They kill us’’ and ‘’they rape us.’’

Spanish police officers can be seen patrolling the area and asking for the women’s identity cards following the act of protest.

According to the group, Spain is experiencing a wave of violence against women.

‘’The Spanish government has to activate an emergency plan to stop gender violence and condemn these crimes properly,’’ the activist group says.

One week ago, a young woman was assaulted and raped by a group of men in Sabadell, Catalonia.

More than 10 women have been killed in acts of gender violence in Spain so far this year, according to official government data.

The socialist government adressed this problem but is doing nothing efective to stop it. Their silence is a partener in crime, the lack of commitment keep the killers unpunished.

In 2019, more than 10 women have been killed by gender violence.

Everyday women are killed, we read headlines about it every single day... we are used to it.

We cant stand it anymore. Our identity cant be a direct access to the morgue. Women deserve to live free from violence. Women have the right to be protected from their agressors and live freely without any guilt.

FEMEN wants to address the government and ask for action against this massacre against women. This is our voice against gender violence.
Women are not going to stand to live with fear.
