A dramatic video has emerged from the village of Medinaceli, Spain, of a group of protesters clashing with the Spanish police over the village's tradition to set bull's horns on fire during the Toro de Jubilo festival.

According to the filmer, more than half a hundred protesters jumped to the arena where the festival is set to try to stop the ceremony from taking place. Some protesters chained themselves to the pole where the bull is tied at the beginning of the ceremony, where they were repeatedly kicked, beaten and threatened by some members of the public. It took the Spanish Civil Guard an hour to evict the protesters, many of whom were kicked and jostled on their way out of the arena.

The “Toro Jubilo” festival of Medinaceli (population: 780) is a tradition which goes back to the XVI century, and it is the only festival of this kind which still remains in Spain. Twenty porters hold the bull while its tied to a post, and a bracket with two balls impregnated with fuel is set at the hight of its horns. Once the balls are lit, the bull is set lose and it runs around the arena until the fuel goes out, which approximately takes one hour.
