Three policemen were rescued on Friday and five bodies were recovered from an avalanche that buried 10 people in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The avalanche hit a fire emergency facility late on Thursday in the Banihal area of the Kashmir valley.

Rescuers dug for hours through heavy snow to reach the trapped people.

The dead include two firefighters and three police, according to officials.

Jawahar Tunnel Avalanche UPDATE

In the avalanche incident at JT Kulgam, 07 bodies including five policemen have been recovered. One policeman is still missing. Two policemen rescued in the morning are stable.

On Feb 7, Eight policemen and two civilians were gone missing after a snow avalanche struck a post at Jawahar Tunnel along the strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway on Thursday evening

After the incident, the search operation was started, a young man has been taken safely after 14 hours

The rescued jawan is named Gulzar Ahmed. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for the last 3 days due to heavy snowfall and land slides.
