A pensioner has praised his collection of lucky amulets which he believes miraculously saved his life after a truck carrying bamboo toppled over and crushed his car in a horror crash.

Thongsin Moongngam, 73, and wife Maleechan, 70, were driving to the doctors on a Saturday morning (02/02) when the oncoming six-wheel truck lost control.

CCTV footage shows how the lorry – carrying hundreds of bamboo shafts – tipped to the right while it overtook motorcycles in Nong Bua Lamphu province, northeastern Thailand.

It then toppled over directly into the path of the elderly couple, crushing their car. The were trapped in the wreckage under the piles of bamboo, with blood covering over their heads, for 30 minutes.

Shockingly, the truck driver fled the scene without checking on the couple – prompting locals to run after him.

However, both Thongsin and Moongngam were pulled alive from the wreckage and have already returned home having both recovered from minor injuries.


Retired teacher Thongsin said: ''I always carry these amulets in my bag everywhere. Fourteen years ago, I also had a big car accident in Udon Thani, and I survived.

''I believe that it was the power these four amulets. And this time, I am still alive because of them too.

''I bought them from different Buddhist temples and they have all been blessed by monks. They have the power to protect me. Me and my wife are still alive because of these amulets.''
