Green aurora-lit skies were captured in Iceland last week from the passenger window of a moving car.

Last Thursday (February 7) the active northern lights were spotted from highway 41 between Reykjavik and Keflavik. The aurora lights were bright enough to be spotted despite being seen from a well-lit road.

The northern lights are caused by collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the Earth's atmosphere.

I was driving from Reykjavik to Keflavik on highway 41 when I saw that there was active ongoing northernlights. While my friend was driving I shot video in realtime with a Sony a7s and Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens ( with slight crop in to limit vignetting ) at 25 fps.
It was not extremely bright but still good enough to be seen from a moving car a long a lamp-lit road.
I was filming it but also streaming it live on facebook , using a Teradek VidiU encoder , wifi connection from smartphone over 4G.
So this is along the main road that connects Iceland's capital with KEF international airport. Driving west, looking north.
