Local fishermen in Vietnam dragged a 10-metre-long whale carcass inland and took it to their temple for worshipping.

Footage captured on February 15 in Bac Lieu Province captured dozens of fishermen pulling a giant whale carcass out the shallow waters.

The whale was later buried in a funeral following the tradition in the area.

Whale-worshipping is an ancient cult in Vietnam. There are numerous temples dedicated to whales across the country and the practice of giving a dead whale an elaborate funeral is often practiced by local fishermen.

The deceased whale is buried in a funeral and exhumated three or four years after. The bones are then cleaned and placed in temples.
