Elephants can be unpredictable at times. Females have hormones that go up and down due to having babies. Males also have hormones like Testosterone that rises annually from the age of 35 on wards. This is when they are most attractive to females for mating and in the prime of their life.
More rare would be an injured Elephant and that is the most unpredictable situation. Having said that Elephants will always give you signs of how they are feeling and it is up to you to understand them...
