So much broken ice has flowed from Lake Erie in recent days that Niagara Falls has become partially blocked.

High winds on Sunday smashed sections of the frozen surface of the lake and now huge slabs of ice are flowing down the Niagara River.

Much of that ice is collecting at the famous falls, reducing the volume of water.

A video filmed on Monday showed the Bridal Veil Falls - the smallest of the three waterfalls which make up Niagara Falls - had almost completely stopped flowing.

On February 24th 2019, and extreme wind storm in Ontario caused seven of the 21 sections of the ice boom in Lake Erie to give way. The ice boom is in place to prevent ice jamming further down river in Niagara Falls. The high winds carried tons of ice Downriver and because of the Westerly winds all the ice settled against the American Shoreline causing a blockage to the inlet of the falls. This blockage cause the water to stop flowing over part of Niagara Falls, the section called bridal veil Falls! The flow over the remainder of the American Falls was also drastically reduced bece of this phenomenon! You can also see a section of the ice boom that went over the falls and settled on the ice bridge in the Niagara River! A rare sight indeed!
