Parents eat the shell of a latecomer baby robin, which shows the early bird might catch the worm but the late arrival can still join them!

This was the second batch of robins eggs in the filmer's nest when the video was taken in July last year, which rests under the wooden boards of their porch at their Washington state home.

The baby robin seen hatching here arrived one day after its siblings.

According to one online birdwatching outlet, a hatched baby robin's shell is eaten to restore valuable depleted minerals, such as calcium, back into the parent's bodies.

This little robin baby is hatching and joining their two siblings, who hatched the previous day. You can see the parents come and carefully eat the bright blue robin's egg shell.

This was the second batch of robin's eggs in this nest (resting under the boards of the 2nd-story deck of our house in Irondale-Port Hadlock in Washington State), so we knew to look for it and were lucky enough to catch this amazing moment on film.

I left the camera going and walked away, rather than staying to watch the egg hatch, so that the parents would feel comfortable being at the nest.

We found from the previous nest that the presence of the camera didn't keep the parents away, but they would fly away for a couple minutes any time a human would approach.
