The prefab housing isn’t anything new, but there aren’t many prefabricated homes which combines unique design, energy efficiency and affordability together in one neatly-boxed package. That’s exactly what ecokit stands for.

Ecokit provide a turnkey solution to housing through the provision of a flat-prepacked assembly system. Every design is possible to be assembled by a group of people without the use of heavy machinery and even inexperienced self builder can easily manage the project, saving himself significant share of the project’s budget.

Costing around AUD$250,000 for the kit for a 3 bedroom house, we think it is a great deal - especially considering the average cost of homes in Australia verges on the $1 million mark.

However, it’s the outstanding performance that sets ecokit homes apart - energy efficient homes perform much better in hot spells and heat waves, which are already becoming far more frequent. Those well insulated and thoughtfully designed homes are much better for the health and safety of residents factoring in a future hotter climate.

This, combined with shading, thermal mass, energy-efficient LED lights and an electrical system that is solar storage and battery-ready, also helps the homes’ occupants reduce their energy usage.

The prototype built in 2018 in Jindabyne, NSW integrates sustainable materials with a low embodied energy, and is completely off grid.
