A video has emerged capturing the moment a protester almost set fire to himself when he tried to turn a deodorant can into a flame-thrower in Paris, France on Saturday.

The footage, shot during protests outside Diderot College, shows the man lighting the can on top of a barricade made from dustbins when it explodes in his face.

The protester can be seen running from the scene, apparently avoiding serious injury.

According to local news reports, a number of Parisian colleges were blockaded by students last week in protests against police violence, following the death of young activist Remi Fraisse late last month.
