Longer version_Leopard injures at least one man in northern India; animal rescued by forest officials
A man has sustained injuries while fending off a leopard attack in northern India. The predator has since been rescued.
The incident took place in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district.
The victim, who was identified as Tape Ram, said he was on his way when the big cat was sighted.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Ram said he initially wrestled, but it proved too powerful and bit his hand.
Later, a video of the leopard roaming in the snow clad terrains of the area has emerged.
A few male voices were also heard calling out the animal, while a female voice asked them to refrain from it.
Apart from injuring the man, the leopard has also killed at least three dogs, reports said.
It was, however, tranquilised and moved to a forest after forest officials were alerted about the big cat’s presence.
Leopard sightings in public aren’t rare in India.
