Buildings at The University of Glasgow have been evacuated amid the discovery of a "suspicious package" this morning (March 6).

Police officers can be seen blocking University Avenue and cordoning off the road with tape.

The buildings that have been affected are the Boyd Orr Building, the Mailroom, Wolfson Medical Building and Bower Building.

Classes at the university have been cancelled for the rest of the day while the university Twitter announced: "Under advice from Police Scotland, a number of buildings on the main University campus have been evacuated as a precautionary measure after a suspicious package was found in the University’s mailroom.

"Police are dealing with the matter and we will provide regular updates."

The filmer explained to Newsflare: "On way to class we were told some building were shut due to a suspicious package being in the mailroom,

"then the police started putting up barriers and now the car park and university avenue is blocked off entirely with police cars and people being escorted out, now all buildings bar the library are shut.

"I am a 19-year-old student and other fellow students are saying it is a bomb threat the police have only said they are taking the safest measures as there is a risk of threat.

"There was a culture fair which has since been cancelled and times of students have mentioned a bomb threat the police said they are taking the appropriate measures."
