A baby elephant escapes the afternoon heat in a mudbath, before his brother playfully amuses himself by holding down the squirming elephant with his trunk and leg.

No matter the species siblings always annoy each other, as is apparent in this video caught during a safari at Kruger National Park, South Africa on March 9.

The filmer says that "We found this behaviour hilarious and couldn’t believe that the young elephant was actually on purpose preventing his brother from getting up from the mud."

In the end, the playful male lost interest and indulged himself in the mud alongside his brother.

During an early afternoon safari, we drove along a river and came across a small herd of elephants. It was still hot and some of the elephants were enjoying a mud bath, finding relief from the heat. There were two specific young males that caught our attention. The one was lying in the mud, looking like it was struggling to get up. The other young male elephant was standing nearby, playing around with the mud. The standing young male then became very amused by his brother’s efforts to get up from the mud. Instead of helping his brother, the playful elephant decided to put his front foot on top of his brother, making it harder for him to get up. We found this behavior hilarious and couldn’t believe that the young elephant was actually on purpose preventing his brother from getting up from the mud. The one elephant clearly decided that his brother needed to stay down in the mud for a little longer. In the end the playful male lost interest. He got off his brother and decided it was now his turn to go lie down in the mud.
