Hundreds of people queued for water on Friday in the Philippines capital as a drought caused shortage across the country.

A video showed residents of the Mandaluyong City area of Manila waiting in line to fill plastic containers from a fire truck.

More than 1.2-million households in Manila have been affected by the water shortages which authorities have said could last until the summer.

More than 1.2 million households in Metro Manila are currently grappling with scarce water supply, which authorities said could last until the summer season.

It has been blamed on the El Nino, a weather phenomenon caused by warming ocean surface temperatures in the eastern and central Pacific. It last occurred from around 2015 to 2016, and caused weather-related crop damage, fires and flash floods.

The United Nations World Meteorological Organization claims that El Niño can affect rainfall and temperature patterns in many regions.
