Air pollution statistics are showing Chiang Mai, a northern city in Thailand, as having at times the most polluted air in the world(source:Air Visual). Authorities blame farmers for burning crops, though this is banned. Another factor is polluting vehicles. The Air Quality Index for my area as I write is showing from 47 PM2.5 to 311 PM 2.5 over the last 48 hours. Some adjoining areas have been exceeding 400 PM 2.5 which is considered hazardous.. The WHO safe limit is 25 PM 2.5 while Thailand's is 50 PM 2.5. Some flights have been cancelled and people advised to wear masks or stay indoors. The fire shown is in the Doi Suthep area.
UPDATE:AQI is 310 at 1pm on March 23
