Apartment Building fire with Rescue

Northumberland County Communications Center dispatched a Working Commercial Building fire at 50 North Maple Street, Mount Carmel. The first in units confirmed a working Apartment building fire.One person was rescued from a 2nd floor apartment along with numerous pets prior to this call being upgraded to a 2nd alarm.The fire was brought under control at about 15:46 hrs. with overhaul commencing.Utilities were contacted in order to control the Electric and Gas. The pets were transported to a local and those that survived are being treated at a local animal facility.The Red Cross setup operations at the Clover Hose Fire Company to assist the approximately 20 individuals who have been displaced.A State Police Fire Marshall is expected on scene to investigate this blaze.PA Act. 35 violations were spotted during this incident and the Local Police Department is collecting evidence and investigating this matter.Resident Ray Dechert is credited with alerting other residence of the building after smelling and seeing smoke in his apartment. Mr. Dechert ran thru the building yelling “Fire everyone get out”.

The cause is listed as undetermined because of the extensive damage at the fire source.

An Act 35 investigation is continuing.
