Thousands took to the streets in Colombia to protest President Ivan Duque’s attempts to change the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP)law that established the country’s war crimes tribunal.

Footage captured on March 18 shows thousands of protesters gathering at Plaza Bolivar in Bogota.

Demonstrators can be seen holding signs with messages reading 'Porque queremos la paz' (We want peace) and 'El pueblo resiste' (We stand together).

The JEP law seeks to provide justice to the victims of more than a half-century of armed conflict and tackle the high impunity rate for crimes against humanity in the country.

In different cities of Colombia people went to the main squares to show their displeasure to the President of Colombia Iván Duque for the repeated attempts of him and his government in wanting to change fundamental aspects of the Special Justice for Peace, a juridical space that was born with the signature of the agreements of Havana Cuba thus achieving a firm step in the quest to end a war between the FARC-EP and different governments that lasted 51 years leaving one million dead, 8 million displaced within the country and 14 million people who fled outside of Colombia.

In the Bolivar Square in Bogotá 10,000 people gathered.
