Incredible moment off-duty nurse saves the life of drowning tourist who knocked himself out on paddle board
This is the incredible moment an off-duty nurse brought a tourist back from the dead after he knocked himself out and almost drowned while paddle boarding.
The Chinese holidaymaker was playing with his friends in the popular Philippines beach destination Boracay on March 11 when he fell and hit his head on the board. He lost consciousness and fell into the water, sinking below the surface.
Frantic beachgoers rushed out and dragged him ashore but his lips had turned grey and with no lifeguards, his chances of survival appeared slim.
Luckily, nurse Louisa Jasmin Jenkins who was walking along the beach at the same time as the incident rushed over and began performing CPR.
Several minutes later the blue-faced tourist began coughing and spluttering water.
Onlooker JP Kabigting, a Filipino tourist who was also on the beach said: "If it were not for the woman and her boyfriend who arrived at the beach, the tourist could have died.''
Louisa and her partner Justine Navarra rushed over to where crowds had gathered and began to perform the live-saving procedure. The nurse said: ''We were at the shore looking after my young cousin swimming. I saw the man with no signs of life and ran to save him.''
The injured tourist was taken to hospital and was reportedly discharged later that day.
