Controversial "People's Vote" adverts spotted at Westminster Station

Advertisements for the People's Vote march tomorrow were spotted today (22nd March) at Westminster Underground Station.

The adverts have caused some controversy as some questioned whether the ads breached Transport for London's rules on political advertising on their network.

City A.M. reports that yesterday Conservative member of the London Assembly Andrew Boff asked the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan why TfL had allowed People's Vote ads. Sadiq Khan said he understood there is no breach of the TfL policy and in their view it isn't particularly controversial or sensitive.

Rule 2.3(n) of TfL's advertising guidelines states an "advertisement will be unacceptable if it promotes a party political cause or electioneering."

As the People's Vote campaign is not associated with a particular party, it is assumed the ads are not in breach.

The Mayor is a well-known supporter of the People's Vote.
