This is the terrifying moment an old woman narrowly escaped death by climbing out of an elevator shaft that went up before the doors had closed in Shanghai on March 23.

The shocking video shows an old woman walking into an elevator before tripping over, and the elevator then began moving while her body was hanging out of the open doors.

Fortunately, the woman climbed out of the elevator before she was caught by the closing door. She was frightened but only suffered minor scratches to her knees.

The case was being investigated and the elevator was put out of use, reports said.

3月23日中午，63岁的陈阿婆从上海北虹路1185号天申大楼9楼准备乘电梯前往13楼，她进入电梯时就被绊了一跤，摔倒在地，电梯随后关门“夹人”，并开始向上走，所幸老人反应及时，奋力向后爬出电梯门才逃过一劫。老人虽然仅膝盖轻微擦伤，但人受到了惊吓。大楼物业负责人王先生表示，现在无法给出电梯出故障的明确原因，市场监督特检组仍在调查中，在相关测试结果未出来前电梯会暂时停用。
