A dramatic video has emerged of a man being rescued from a car about to be swept away in a raging river in Bhutan.

In the footage, captured near the town of Phuentsholing in late September, a group of men place a ladder between the riverbank and the car and a daring rescuer, tied to a rope, climbs across it to pull the man to safety.

According to the filmer, the driver had been drinking and accidentally drove his vehicle into the swollen river at around 5pm.

The amazing rescue operation took one hour and the man was later returned to his family safe and well.
