A Bangladeshi man who suffers from an extremely rare genetic disease known as "tree man" syndrome underwent 24 surgeries to remove the warts from his hands, legs and body.

Abul Bajandar has been living with the disease for more than two decades. Intrigued by his condition, doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital treated him for free, surgically removing more than five kilos of growths from his hands and feet in 24 operations between 2017 and 2018.

This video, filmed in 2017 shows the extent of his growths prior to the surgeries.

However in 2019, twelve months after doctors declared him all but cured following the surgeries, Bajandar's hands regained the growths that characterise his rare condition.

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV), also known as tree man syndrome, is an extremely rare skin disorder associated with a high risk of skin cancer. The condition is so extremely rare that not more than 12 people suffer from it around the globe.

Bajandar's condition has now worsened, with lesions on his hands around one-inch long. The warts have also spread to his feet and other parts of his body.
