Noisy male elephant chases lone zebra away from water for no reason

Watching elephants in the wild is always a great experience, with their sheer size and presence making you feel very small and insignificant. Being the largest land mammals on this planet, there is usually no small attitude or temperament either, especially among male elephants. While on safari in Kruger National Park, we stopped to watch a small herd of elephants moving across a large open grassland area. While the elephants were moving, we could hear the loud rumble noises of the herd members, communicating with one another. One big male then suddenly uttered a loud trumpeting noise. The big bull then started running down the hill straight to a large waterbody. At the edge of the water was a lone zebra busy quenching its thirst. Initially unaware, the zebra suddenly got a fright when it realised that the big male elephant was coming towards it from behind. The zebra quickly had its last sip, jump around, ran a short distance away and then turned around looking at the elephant all confused. The elephant moved on as if nothing really happened. We couldn’t find any specific reason to why the bull elephant momentarily left his herd members to run down and chase away a lone zebra just wanting to drink water. In the end we agreed that a male elephant with a big body and attitude can most likely do anything he likes, purely just because he can.
