Tens of Thousands of Jewish mourners gathered in Brooklyn today to attend the funeral of the Grand Rabbi of Skulen who passed away last night. An announcer can be heard giving instructions in Yiddish for the people to start leaving slowly so nobody gets trampled. The Rabbi - Yisroel Avrohom Portugal was 95 years old and highly respected and beloved in the Orthodox Jewry throughout the world. He is a survivor of the Holocaust and later survived the horrible conditions in the brutal prisons in communist Romania where he was imprisoned for leading the small Jewish community there after world war two. He arrived in America in the 1960's and has been leading the Skulen community after his father passed away. May his memory be a blessing.
