Raheem Sterling says he is "proud to be black" and has urged other footballers to speak up on the issue of racism in the sport.

The 24-year-old spoke in 2019 on his experiences with racism growing up: "It was mainly when I went up North to Liverpool, that's the first time I encountered racism. In London on a day-to-day basis, you're around a really diverse community."

The forward, who was a Manchester City player at the time he made the comments but now plays for Chelsea, has received praise for his public stance against racism, after first accusing the media of "fuelling" the problem with their portrayal of young black footballers.
