An Indian man was filmed at a hospital on Wednesday calmly talking to medics with an iron rod sticking out of both sides of his head.

Doctors later managed to safely remove the rod from Sanjay Bahe's skull and expected the 21-year-old to survive the horrific accident.

Bahe was building a well at his family farm in Balaghat in the state of Madhya Pradesh when he fell onto the metal rods.

One of the rods pieced the right side of his skull, passed through his brain and came out of left side of his head.

Incredibly, Bahe remained conscious and "orientated" as he was taken to Nagpur for treatment.

Doctors then operated on Bahe for an hour and a half and successfully removed the metal rod with little bleeding or injury to the surrounding area, according to the hospital.

An iron rod pierced right through the head of a 21-year old man at Balaghat on Wednesday (10th April). Luckily, the patient, Sanjay Bahe, remained conscious and oriented all through the journey from Balaghat to Nagpur for treatment the same day, where doctors were able to remove the rod safely and save his life The patient was constructing a well in his house to save money on labour. One of the rods entered his head from the right side passed through his brain, and came out the left side of the head . The rod pierced his left hand too before Bahe came to rest at the bottom of the well. Dr Narendra Giri anoted nureau surgeon in Nagpur along with his team performed procedure that lasted for one-and-a-half hours and removed the rod.According to doctors . It was a serious injury but Sanjay was conscious and oriented. He was taken to Gondia’s B J Hospital, where Dr Vikas Jain examined him.Dr Jain provided him first aid but he realised that the patient needed to be taken to a neurosurgeon. Accordingly, Sanjay was brought to Neuron Hospital where Dr Giri examined him. Sanjay was in hypotension and crucial. He was resuscitated with blood, blood products and was taken for surgery after full preparation. The operation was performed for one-and-a-half hours and the rod was removed safely after craniotomy. There was hardly any bleeding or injury to surrounding structure.
