A remote village in central India reportedly punished a woman who had an affair with a man of a different caste by having her carry her husband on her shoulders.

The incident took place on April 12, in Devigarh, Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh, with footage showing the woman clearly struggling to walk under the weight of her husband, while a crowd of men shout and jeer at her plight as she walks.

Local police were informed of the outrageous punishment and it was reported by the local Superintendent of Police, Vineet Jain, that two people were arrested and a case was filed against all involved.

In a far flung village named Devigarh in Jhabua of Madhya Pradesh Villagers force a woman to carry her husband on her shoulders as a punishment for allegedly having an affair with a man from a different caste. The incident happened on 12th april .As she walks, her legs tremble. At one point you may feel she is about to collapse under the weight she is being forced to carry on her shoulder.The woman, who appears to be in her twenties, is surrounded by a crowd of tens of people. All of them are men-young, mid-age and the old. They are shouting, some dancing and others hooting at her plight.Some people are armed with sticks and one carries a small pole atop which a flag flutters.When she pauses to rest, the crowd jeers. Helpless, she continues to walk with her feet trembling under her husband's weight on her shoulder.
The local police have reportedly taken note of the matter. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Jhabua, Vineet Jain, said that two people have been arrested so far.
