A video has emerged of a person feeding a hatchling. The footage was shot on Apr. 11 in New Alipore area of Kolkata, the capital of eastern India’s West Bengal State.

Footage showed the new born opening its mouth to take in the food, while another footage showed the hatchling trying to move its body.

The new born was rescued earlier in the day by Riyanka Halder, 24, who shared how she first met the bird.

“I was in my balcony when something fell on top of my head,” Halder told Newslions.

“At first I thought it was a lizard, but as I took a closer look, I realised it was a hatchling and immediately picked it up.”

Halder said a common Indian sparrow had made its nest in her balcony and the hatchling belongs to the bird.

In hindsight, the hatchling was fortunate enough to live. There have been instances when a hatchling is eaten alive by cats after it fell out of the nest.
