The Lion (Panthera leo) is an iconic animal to see in South Africa ‘s wonderful Kruger Park, and is a major attraction. This pair of mating Lions was in long grass on the edge of the S90 Road near Satara Restcamp in Kruger Park, South Africa. The huge male Lion has a mostly black mane, typical of Kruger Lions. Mating in Lions is very brief, and only lasts a few seconds, with the male often snarling and threatening to bite the neck of the female. After mating, the Lioness often rolls on to her back, flicking her tail as the male stands nearby, marking the area by raking scent glands on his feet onto the ground. After all this is done, the mating pair relax, lying close together. Mating lions leave the pride and spend at least several days together, mating frequently.
