This is the amazing footage of what is described as a "mothership" supercell cloud looming over Amarillo, Texas on Saturday (April 27).

The time-lapse video shows the huge disc formation of the cloud slowly sweep across the sky in a very extraterrestrial way.

The filmer explained: "This high-based, beauty of a storm was long tracked, making its way across the Panhandle for several hours.

"It created hype among the cities & towns it passed near, flooding social media with its majestic form.

"I decided to get a quick timelapse of the cell as it approached, making sure the quality was as crisp as possible."

It has been described as resembling something from the film "Independence Day" on social media.
