Elephant strays into residential area in north east India, triggers panic among locals

An elephant strayed away from a nearby forest and strayed into a residential area in north east India, ensuing a panic. The incident took place on Apr 30 in Panjabri areaof Guwahati, the capital of Assam state.

Visuals from the spot showed the giant mammal resting behind a straw house as forest officials and onlookers watched on. Officials also open fired, in a bid to scare the animal.

The tactic worked as the pachyderm reluctantly got out from the place and started to walk towards the forest.

Another visual showed the pachyderm waking through the streets.

A man, who could not be seen in the frame, is heard worrying about his car as the jumbo walked towards it.

Reports said the elephant had strayed away from the nearby Amchang Reserve forest on Saturday in search of food.

Before it went back to the forest on Tuesday, the pachyderm destroyed a few temporary houses. Fortunately, it did not hurt any person.
