Cyclone Fani wreaked havoc along the coast of Odisha in eastern India as it made landfall earlier today (May 3).

Footage shows high winds battering tree palms and homes in the coastal city of Puri, home to about 200,000 people.

At least one million people have been evacuated and 5,000 shelters have been set up in Odisha state.

Fani is the most severe storm to hit Odisha since 1999 when a cyclone killed more than 10,000 people.

The cyclone struck on the morning of May 03rd around 8 am with a speed of 150 to 175 Km/hr and even higher in some of the areas.
The visuals show the strong winds blowing due to which there has been incidences of tree falls and sea swirling.
More than 10 Lakhs people have been evacuated from the region fearing a major devastation as the NDRF (National Disaster Response force), coast guard, disaster management and Indian army have been pressed in to tackle the extreme weather conditions in the state of Odisha.
Flight operations from Bhuvaneswar and Kolkata have been suspended following strong winds of 175 Km/hr and heavy rainfall.
A total of 143 trains have been suspended by the Indian Railways as the eye of the cyclone expands up to a radius 30 to 50 Kilometres.
The government has opened a helpline to the aid of the people as about 5000 kitchens started operating to serve people in the shelters.
The area hit majorly are the coastal areas of Puri and Bhubaneswar.
